Husky Energy supports wetland conservation in Alberta

Calgary, Alberta - Ducks Unlimited Canada (DUC) is pleased to announce a $200,000 contribution to wetlands conservation made by Husky Energy at DUC’s 75th Anniversary Diamond Signature Gala in Calgary. Both organizations are celebrating their 75th anniversary and this donation highlights Husky Energy’s dedication to conservation.

“I want to thank Husky for their continued support, while congratulating them on their 75 years in helping secure Canada’s energy future,” said Greg Siekaniec, CEO of DUC. “Our partnership in conservation goes back more than a decade, and this most recent donation now pushes them over the $1-million contribution mark, joining Ducks Unlimited Canada’s prestigious diamond legacy donors. What a tremendous way to celebrate both our anniversaries.”

Husky’s support will be allocated to wetland restoration in the east central portion of Alberta. This area has seen a great deal of wetland drainage, however, landowners and local residents are seeing value in putting water back on the landscape and DUC is able to deliver.

“Ducks Unlimited Canada has an impressive history of conservation efforts that help protect Canada’s wetlands for future generations,” said Asim Ghosh, CEO for Husky Energy. “We congratulate them on their 75 years of service to the community.”

Wetlands connect us all. Clean water, flood and drought prevention, as well as habitat for waterfowl and thousands of species of wildlife are valuable environmental benefits provided by wetlands. We must all do our part to protect them.

DUC is able to celebrate 75 years of conservation thanks largely to major gift support from organizations such as Husky Energy who enable DUC to deliver on-the-ground wetland conservation. DUC’s ’Partners in Conservation’ are vital in achieving our goal to conserve Canada’s wetlands. Together we are making a real difference of more than 2 million conserved acres in Alberta.

Ducks Unlimited Canada (DUC) is the leader in wetland conservation. A registered charity, DUC partners with government, industry, non-profit organizations and landowners to conserve wetlands that are critical to waterfowl, wildlife and the environment. Learn more at
