Topsides Platform Ready for Floating to the Jacket at the Liwan Site in South China Sea
The Liwan Central Platform (CEP) topsides, part of the largest drilling platform ever to be constructed in Asia, is making the 2,200 kilometre journey to the Liwan site. The CEP topsides facility will be floated over and secured on the jacket during the second quarter. The jacket platform was put in place on the ocean floor in September 2012 in a water depth of approximately 1,300 metres.
“The Liwan Deepwater Gas Project is a cornerstone of Husky’s Asia Pacific growth pillar and is coming together as planned,” says Tracy Mosness, Vice President of Liwan Project.
He adds that fabrication of the Liwan CEP topsides was completed in 21 months, which is well within top quartile international standards and an impressive accomplishment considering the massive size and complexity of the project.
The Liwan field will use a deepwater subsea production system connected by flow lines and manifolds to a central shallow water platform, which in turn will be connected by pipeline to an onshore gas plant.
Located about 300 kilometres southeast of Hong Kong, Liwan 3-1 is the largest-ever natural gas discovery offshore China. Husky has partnered with China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC) to jointly develop the field.
The Liwan project is an important part of Husky’s balanced growth strategy, providing diversification and a high value product for one of the largest energy markets. Liwan is approximately 80 percent complete and will be Husky’s first new project to production, with first gas anticipated in late 2013.
Husky continues to advance towards its target of 50,000 boe/day from the Asia Pacific Region by 2015.
