Fort McKay Receives $4 million Donation for New Youth Centre, Skills Training
The Fort McKay First Nation has received a $4 million donation from Sunrise Energy Project partners Husky Energy and BP. It includes $3 million for the community’s new youth centre and $1 million for skills and trades training.
“Chief Jim Boucher and council have a strong track record of developing and delivering youth education and skills training programs for their community,” said Husky CEO Asim Ghosh. “The new youth centre will provide an opportunity for the next generation to connect with their culture in creative ways and help them grow into tomorrow’s leaders.”
The centre will provide a place for the community’s youth to create art, access computers, explore photography and perform in a recording studio. The building will also house Fort McKay’s first radio station.
