Stella's Circle receives major investment from Husky Energy

$750,000 will support employment programming for adults

St. John’s - Stella’s Circle announced today that Husky Energy is making a one-time gift of $750,000 to support the creation of an Employment Training Centre in St. John’s, Newfoundland & Labrador.

“We are both thrilled and honoured that Husky has chosen to support the clients of Stella’s Circle,” said Gail Thornhill, Executive Director (Acting). “This gift will make it possible for our organization to provide enhanced programs and services for adults who are eager to enter the workforce, but lack the necessary skills and other personal resources to be successful in their pursuit of employment.”

This is the single largest donation received by the organization and will help adults with barriers to employment acquire the skills they need to access the workforce.

“Education and training are important first steps to better employment opportunities and successful independent living,” said Husky CEO Asim Ghosh. “Stella’s Circle provides options for those who need alternative programs to reach their goals, and Husky’s support of its Employment Training Centre allows that work to continue and grow.”

Stella’s Circle has been offering employment service programs since 2000. In 2013, the organization made a strategic decision to bring all employment programming together under one roof to provide a more efficient, comprehensive offering and build on the social enterprise model. The organization acquired the old Tooton building on Cabot Street last fall and is currently re-developing the property.

When completed later this year, the new Employment Training Centre will be a one-stop resource for people who are ready to go to work but need the support and skill development strategies that our programs will offer.

“The creation of this new facility - a campus for adults who have been challenged to find and maintain employment - is one of the most exciting developments to date at Stella’s Circle,” added Ms. Thornhill.
